Electric Screw Press vs Friction Press
Many forging factories compare the electric screw press with the traditional friction press when upgrading equipment or planning a new production line. Both machines can be used for forging, but they differ in energy control, operation, maintenance and automation potential.
A friction press uses friction transmission to drive the screw and slide. It has been used for many years in forging production, but it can require more operator experience and may have more wear in the transmission system.
An electric screw press uses an electric drive system to control the forging stroke and energy more accurately. This makes it suitable for hot forging, precision forging, closed die forging, sizing, coining and calibration.
One major advantage of the electric screw press is controlled blow energy. In forging, the correct energy setting can help improve forming consistency and reduce unnecessary die stress. This is especially important for manufacturers producing parts that require repeatable dimensions and stable quality.
Maintenance is another factor. Traditional friction presses may involve more wear parts and more frequent adjustment. Electric screw presses are often selected because they provide a more modern, controllable and automation-friendly solution.
Automation is also easier with an electric screw press. It can be integrated with induction heating, automatic feeding, robot loading, trimming press and production line control systems.
For factories that produce automotive parts, brass components, aluminium alloy parts, hardware or machinery components, an electric screw press may offer better long-term production control.
However, the correct choice depends on your budget, production volume, part size, forging process and existing factory setup.
