Electric Screw Press vs Power Hammer
An electric screw press and a power hammer are both used in forging, but they are designed for different production needs. Choosing the right machine depends on your forging process, part shape, production volume and accuracy requirement.
A power hammer is generally used for open die forging, drawing out, upsetting, bending and flexible hammering work. It is useful when the operator needs to shape hot metal with repeated hammer blows.
An electric screw press is usually selected for closed die forging, precision forging, sizing, coining and repeatable production. It delivers controlled forming energy through a screw-driven slide, making it suitable for manufacturers that need stable dimensions and consistent forged parts.
For example, if you are producing automotive components, brass fittings, aluminium alloy forgings, control arms, gear blanks, hardware tools or machinery parts, an electric screw press may be the better choice. If you are producing open die forgings or need flexible hammering, a power hammer may be more suitable.
The electric screw press also works well in automated forging lines. It can be integrated with induction heating, robot loading, trimming press and cooling systems. This makes it useful for factories with higher production targets.
A power hammer may have simpler operation for some open die forging work, but it does not offer the same level of controlled closed die forging performance as an electric screw press.
Simple rule:
• Choose an electric screw press for closed die forging and precision production.
• Choose a power hammer for open die forging and flexible hammering work.
