Open Die Forging Machine for Large Shafts and Rings
An open die forging machine is used to shape heated metal into large industrial components. One of the most common machines for this process is the hydraulic open die forging press, which applies controlled hydraulic force to the workpiece.
For large shaft forging, the machine must provide enough press force, clearance, stroke and column distance to handle long and heavy billets. For ring blanks and discs, the press may require a large travelling worktable and suitable workpiece handling equipment.
The advantage of open die forging is flexibility. The workpiece is not fully enclosed in a die cavity, so it can be moved and rotated during production. This allows manufacturers to produce different shapes and sizes with simpler tooling compared with closed die forging.
A hydraulic open die forging machine can support processes such as upsetting, drawing out, stretching, flattening, piercing, bending and preforming. It is suitable for carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, tool steel and other forgeable metals.
Wiz Machinery can help customers source open die forging machines for shaft, ring and heavy component production. Depending on the project, the machine can also be matched with a forging manipulator, heating furnace, travelling worktable and control system.
For factories producing large forged parts, selecting the right open die forging machine is important for productivity, safety and long-term production reliability.
